Terms

The terms that apply to buying from this store: prices and currency, how an order is accepted, how natural materials vary, promotions, and how a problem gets resolved.

Who you are buying from

Muse & Oak operates this store and is the seller of record for everything on it. "We" and "us" below mean Muse & Oak. Contact details are in the footer of every page and on the contact page — a support email, a telephone line and published hours.

These terms apply to every order placed on museandoak.com. Placing an order means you accept them as they read on the day you order.

Prices and currency

Every price on this site is in USD — US Dollars — and is charged in USD. All prices are shown and charged in US Dollars (USD).

Prices exclude sales tax, which is calculated at checkout from the shipping address where we are required to collect it, and shown as a separate line before you pay. Nothing is added after the total you confirm.

If your card is issued outside the United States your bank may apply its own conversion rate and a foreign-transaction fee. Those are your bank's charges, we do not receive them, and we cannot predict them.

We correct pricing errors. If something is listed at an obviously wrong price we will tell you before dispatch and either honour it or cancel and refund in full — we will not charge you a different price than the one you agreed.

How an order is accepted

Your order is an offer to buy. It is accepted when we dispatch it, and the dispatch email is the confirmation of that. Until then we may decline it — if a piece is out of stock, if the payment does not verify, or if the order is going to an address we do not ship to.

A declined or cancelled order is refunded in full within one business day. We never take payment for something we cannot ship.

Natural materials vary, and that is not a fault

Everything here is made from timber, cloth, clay or metal, and every one of those varies. This is the most important paragraph on the page, so it is stated plainly rather than buried.

SOLID TIMBER: grain, figure and colour differ board to board, and the same species differs between trees. Quarter-sawn oak shows medullary ray flecks in some boards and not others. Smoked oak is fumed rather than stained, so its depth varies across a piece. Every timber item will also darken over its life — the photographs show pieces as they leave the workshop, not as they will look in five years.

STONEWARE: each piece is thrown and glazed by hand, so glaze depth, colour and where the glaze breaks over a throwing ring all vary. Two pieces from the same run will not match exactly, and none will match a photograph precisely.

UNLACQUERED BRASS: leaves us bright and begins to dull within weeks, faster where it is handled. That is the finish behaving as described, not tarnish that we failed to prevent.

LINEN AND WOOL: slubs, weave irregularities and a little shrinkage on the first wash are properties of the fibre. Linen creases permanently by design. Lambswool pills for its first month.

Because of all this, the product photographs are representative rather than exact, and we would rather tell you that here than have you discover it. If a piece differs from its description in a way that is not one of the variations above, that is a fault and the returns terms cover it in full.

Dimensions, and how to judge scale

Every product page states exact dimensions in inches before it states anything else, because nobody can judge a stool from a photograph. Measure the space and compare the number — that is far more reliable than the picture.

Tolerance is a quarter of an inch on a machined timber dimension and half an inch on anything turned or thrown. Within that, the piece is as described; outside it, it is faulty and the returns terms cover it.

Weights are stated too, and they matter more than people expect: a solid oak side table is heavier than a veneered one of the same size, and a brass trivet is heavier than it looks.

Availability

Stock shown as available is available at the moment the page loads, not reserved. Two people can add the last one; if we cannot fill your order we tell you within one business day and refund in full.

Nothing on this site is a subscription, a membership, or a recurring charge of any kind. Every order is a single purchase you complete yourself, and we cannot charge your card again without you going through checkout again.

Promotions and discounts

Where a discount code or a promotion is offered, these terms apply unless the promotion says otherwise in writing: one code per order, codes do not stack, and a code cannot be applied to an order that has already been placed.

A discount applies to the merchandise subtotal only, not to shipping or tax. The free-shipping threshold of $150 is calculated on the merchandise subtotal after the discount, so a discount can take an order below the threshold.

Every promotion states its own expiry date and any exclusions on the page it appears on. Codes have no cash value, cannot be resold, and we may withdraw an offer being used in a way it was not meant for — but never retroactively on an order already placed and paid.

If a piece is returned and the refund would take the order below a threshold that earned a discount or free shipping, we do not claw that back.

Use of this site

Do not attempt to interfere with this site, place orders by automated means, scrape the catalogue, or use it to test card numbers. Orders that look like any of those are cancelled and refunded.

The brand name, the mark, the photography, the copy and the specifications on this site belong to us. You are welcome to quote a specification — that is what it is for — but not to republish the catalogue as your own.

What we are responsible for

We are responsible for supplying pieces that match their published description within the stated tolerance, for shipping them to the address on the order, and for the returns and refund terms on the returns page. Where a piece is faulty or wrongly described, our liability is to replace it or refund it in full including shipping.

Stated load ratings are the limits we tested to and they are on each product page. A stool is not a step stool and a step stool is not a ladder; using either outside its rating is outside what we can be responsible for.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law, including your rights in respect of faulty goods.

Disputes

If something is wrong, email hello@museandoak.com first. Every message answered within one business day. Almost every problem — a charge you do not recognise, a parcel that has not arrived, the wrong piece in the box — is resolved in a day that way, which is faster than any other route available to either of us.

If we cannot resolve it, say so and we will escalate it to someone who can authorise an exception. We would rather refund an order we think we were right about than leave a customer without a resolution.

Changes to these terms

These terms were last updated on 2026-09-12. The version in force on the day you order is the version that governs your order, regardless of what changes afterwards.
