A pair of solid oak bookends with a brass plate let into the base — the weight is in the metal, not the timber, which is why they are small and still hold a shelf of hardbacks.
L-shaped from one block with the foot only 2mm thick at the leading edge, so a book sits over it rather than being propped away from the shelf.

- Block and foot cut from one piece — not a mitre — with a 3mm brass plate housed into a recess and screwed from beneath. Felt over the brass so it slides on a shelf without scoring it.
- How it ages
- The oak honeys. The brass will not stay bright where it is exposed at the edges: expect gold within weeks, soft brown within a year.

- Polish the brass edge with a metal polish if you want it bright; leave it if you do not.

- Will not hold a full shelf of art books on a polished glass shelf — the felt needs some friction.
